Haruhi Fujioka is the protagonist of the 'Ouran High School Host Club' series, and is also a 'Commoner' in the Host Club's eyes, because she is poor and got into Ouran High School on a scholarship. She cannot afford the uniform, so depends on the Host Club to provide her with it, _{much to her disliking}.

She first joined the Host Club, when she was attempting to find a quiet place to study, but instead came across the Third Music Room. When they set their eyes upon her, the Hosts instantly knew who she was, but got her gender confused, because they mistook her for a boy for she was wearing baggy clothing. When attempting to leave Tamaki's tight grip she fell and knocked an expensive vase off of a pedestal, and then became the Host Club's dog to pay back the debt.

However, during the first episode of the anime Ouran High School Host Club the Hosts eventually figured out that she was a female one by one. With 'King' Tamaki figuring out last.

Prior to this, after taking off Haruhi's glasses Tamaki realised that she was a beauty and enlisted the Hitachiin twins to give her a makeover... This made her change from a 'commoner' boy into an attractive young man. After seeing this, she was forced to become a Host so she could pay off her debt to the club.

When Hosting for the first time she was unsure about what she should do, and how she should act. But, after a while she started to enjoy herself and was classed as the 'Natural' of the Host Club.

Her relationship with Tamaki is complicated. He treats her as both a daughter and a love interest, which confuses Haruhi a lot. The Hitachiin twins are similar, both making Haruhi incredibly confused about her feelings towards the two boys. However, she is completely oblivious to their intentions for her.

As a child Haruhi lost her mother, who was a Lawyer. Haruhi idolises her mother, and aims to be just as hard working as her. After the loss of her mother, Haruhi took control of the family, which just consisted of her and her father, who was out drinking a lot. After the realisation that his daughter was looking after him, he got a job at a 'Tranny Bar' and started to give them an income. His hobby is now dressing as a woman 24/7.

Haruhi is not ashamed of her father, but is reluctant to let the Host Club visit her home. But, they visit anyway, much to her distaste. They also followed her to Karuizawa, where she was working at a B&B with one of her Father's friends... Where they stayed and fought over her.

While staying in Karuizawa, she met a middle school friend (Arai), that she hadn't seen since her graduation. He also has feelings for her, which isn't received well by Tamaki and Hikaru.

Other than that, her personality is fun, and she has a good understanding of each of the other Hosts... Even if she doesn't understand their feelings for her.
